Author interview with T.A. Pratt

As part of my ongoing coverage of speculative fiction, in all its dark corners and shady alleyways, my Examiner.com page is going to be running some author interviews over the next few weeks and months. First up, T.A. Pratt, author of the Marla Mason fantasy series. If you haven't had a chance to read his work yet, you're missing out.

Check out the interview, and keep an eye out for more to come! (upcoming interviews will include Jim C. Hines and Tobias Buckell, so I'm very excited)

New Dresden Files cover art

Book 12 now has an official title and look:

Excited, yet of course impatient to wait until April 2010, when it will be released.

Let wild speculation begin about plot and all the rest.

Tolkien's Query Letter

Agent Nathan Bransford has a series of guest bloggers posting for him from time to time, and this last week had one that got me laughing pretty hard.

Here it is, a rejection letter for Tolkien's query of The Hobbit.

First Draft Completed

The first draft of my latest manuscript is now roughed out in full. Whew.

Working Title: The Cleaners: Enter the Janitor

Word Count: 82k

Genre: Fantasy

Elevator pitch (this will no doubt change): A janitor who works for a supernatural sanitation department gets a new apprentice whose powers trigger natural disasters wherever she goes.

This is one of my shorter stories, but I still had a ton of fun writing it. First cooks, now janitors. What next? Now to stick it in a mental drawer for a week or two before the revision and feedback process starts.

Cryptozoology comes to life...well...sort of

Things like Bigfoot, griffins and other paranormal or mythological creatures have haunted our imaginations for centuries, of not millenia. Now, the creators of the Crappy Taxidermy website and blog have revealed numerous mock-ups of strange, wonderful and twisted animals (or other entities) for your viewing pleasure. Or displeasure.
